In shows that started at 9PM last night, Will Ferrell and his ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES (Paramount) crew pulled in $2.3M. That’s ahead of the $2.2M earned by This Is the End and $1.7M for We’re the Millers, two recent midweek hit comedies that had the benefit of summer openings. As a sequel (and a particularly long-awaited one), Anchorman 2 may be more frontloaded than those, but with the holiday box office bonanza just a week away, it should blow past the $85.3M earned by the first Anchorman in its 2004 release, starting with its $28.4M opening weekend.

The weekend predictions will return next week, when Exodus: God and Kings and Top Five are released nationally. This weekend, typical for the post-Thanksgiving weekend, is extremely quiet. Only The Pyramid is opening at a very small 589 theaters.
