HOLDOVERS: Once again, there were no significant openings this week. And once again, the lack of competition didn’t help WW84 (DC/Warners, also on HBO Max), which had the worst hold of the top titles, down 46% to $3M. It now seems unlikely to get much past $40M in the US, and it’s no longer clear that the mega-franchise installment will end up higher than The Croods: A New Age. Overseas, WW84 is at $98.8M after a $4.7M weekend, and won’t approach Tenet‘s $305M.
THE CROODS: A NEW AGE (DreamWorks/Universal, also on VOD), despite several weeks of availability on VOD, dipped 19% to $1.8M in its 7th weekend and should reach $42M or so in the US. It also has $91M overseas.
NEWS OF THE WORLD (Universal, scheduled for VOD next week) lost 27% to $1.2M in its 3rd weekend and should pass $10M in the US. It’s still awaiting overseas release.
MONSTER HUNTER (Screen Gems/Sony) was down just 13% to $1.1M in its 4th weekend, on its way over $10M in the US, plus $5.8M overseas.
FATALE (Lionsgate, also on VOD) had the best hold of the top titles, down a mere 5% in its 4th weekend, but with under $700K for the weekend, it still won’t do much better than $6M in US theatres. No international release yet.
PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (Focus/Universal, scheduled for VOD next week) dropped 19% to $560K in its 3rd weekend, and $5M in US theatres may be a stretch. It hasn’t yet opened overseas.
NEXT WEEKEND: The pandemic has lasted long enough that it’s getting its 2nd Liam Neeson action vehicle, this one THE MARKSMAN (Open Road).
