Weekend Box Office Predictions 12.11-13.2015

Weekend #50 of 2015 is looking like a soft $72 million for the top 12 films this weekend, below what we usually see this weekend (see comparisons below).

In the Heart of the Sea from Warner Brothers should open with $12.5 million Friday-Sunday. The film is on track for around $55 million domestic in its run. Overseas the film could bring in $105 million, giving it a worldwide box office target of $160 million.

For the past four years, the top 12 films this weekend have averaged $114 million total, ranking 36th of 52 weeks. Last year, this weekend’s total was $76 million (while 2013 was $141 million, 2012 was $130 million and 2011 was $110 million). This Friday-Sunday is looking like a weak $72 million, down -37% from the multi-year average for the comparable weekend and down -6% from the same weekend last year.
