Weekend Box Office Predictions 6.26-28.2015

Weekend #26 of 2015 is looking like $204 million for the top 12 films this weekend, somewhat above the norm for the same weekend the past few years (see comparisons below).  This would be the third up weekend in a row after a stumbling start to summer.

Ted 2 from Universal should open with a $58.0 million three-day weekend. Early reviews at RottenTomatoes are not great: 38% positive overall so far. Ted 2 is on track for around $176 million domestic. Overseas the film could bring in $282 million, giving it a worldwide box office target of $458 million.

This would be somewhat below the $549 million worldwide total for Ted (released on 6.29.2012 with $219 million domestic total and $331 million overseas total).

Max from Warner Brothers should open with a $13.5 million three-day weekend. No reviews yet at RottenTomatoes. Max is on track for around $31 million domestic. Overseas the film could bring in $11 million, giving it a worldwide box office target of $42 million.

Last year, this weekend’s total was $173 million (while 2013 was $183 million, 2012 was $197 million and 2011 was $192 million).
