Weekend #23 of 2015 is looking like $154 million for the top 12 films this weekend, very much on par with the same weekend the past few years.
Spy from Fox should open with a $39.5 million three-day weekend. Early reviews at RottenTomatoes are loving: 96% positive overall so far. Spy is on track for around $133 million domestic. Overseas the film could bring in $165 million, giving it a worldwide box office target of $298 million.
Insidious Chapter 3 from Focus/ Universal should open with a $28.0 million three-day weekend. No reviews yet at RottenTomatoes. Insidious Chapter is on track for around $70 million domestic. Overseas the film could bring in another $65 million, giving it a worldwide box office target of $135 million.
This would be slightly below the $161.9 million worldwide for Insidious Chapter 2 (released 9.13.2013 with $83.6 million domestic and $78.3 million overseas) but above the $97.0 million worldwide for Insidious (released 4.1.2011 with $54.0 million domestic and $43.0 million overseas).
Entourage from Warner Brothers should collect $17.0 million for the traditional three-day weekend and $26 million for Wednesday-Sunday. In early reviews, critics are not supportive: only 32% positive so far. Entourage is on track for around $66 million domestic. Overseas the film could bring in another $44 million, giving it a worldwide box office target of $110 million.
