WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD. Updated look at 2016 films by studio. We will begin tracking the 2017 slate in a few weeks.
YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2017 to date is +12% above last year and still +29% above the average for this point the past four years ($0.190 billion). Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed $0.622 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office (that’s +24% above the comparable worldwide box office last year at this stage and +27% ahead of 2015). Of course, take these early 2017 numbers with a grain of salt until we have more weeks in the averages.
A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year. (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)
