WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD.  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has transformed Paramount into player status (now $2.0 billion worldwide year to date), with much more overseas revenue to come from the film.  With continued overseas returns from Guardians of the Galaxy, Disney ($2.33 billion worldwide to date) has widened its lead over Warner Brothers ($2.16 billion).

YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2014 is now running -7% behind last year (better than the -8% pace last week) and still -5% below the average for this point the past four years ($6.355 billion).  Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed $15.6 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office.

A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year.  (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)
