Halloween always depresses television usage levels of 2-34 year-olds, but last night it looks like 35-49 year-olds also took the night off from watching TV in greater than normal numbers. Just an awful night for network TV, with season lows reached on various shows. FOX won the night with only a 2.7 adult 18-49 rating, while CBS and ABC fell into the mid-2 rating area and NBC remains stuck at a mid-1 rating. No holiday excuse for NBC — their Wednesday is just that bad.

The live X Factor episode last night revealed new hair colors and styles for Demi Lovato and Brittney Spears, as well as a new skin tone for Ms Spears. But the most frightening element of the show was new host Khloe Kardashian with an interviewing style that seemed to really piss off Simon Cowell. (“What do you mean by that comment, Simon?” “If it was a bad song choice, what should they have sung?” “I really want to know”) Look for co-host Mario Lopez, a seasoned pro who also realizes Simon Cowell runs the show, to be promoted to solo host soon.
The show struggled to a 2.7 from 8-10 pm, falling well below the mid-3 rating level it enjoyed before the disruptions of postseason baseball.
