None of the night’s returns livened things up.

DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).

CBS:  At 1.7, SURVIVOR had its lowest-rated cycle premiere ever, down 0.2 from Spring 2016.  (The fall cycles are typically higher-rated.)  The season premiere of CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS was at 0.9, down 0.1 from its 2016 finale.

ABC:  Even as its network and studio struggle to make new cast deals, MODERN FAMILY hit a series low 1.9, down 0.1 from recent weeks.  THE GOLDBERGS dropped 0.1 to 1.7, SPEECHLESS returned from a week off down 0.1 to 1.5, and BLACK-ISH also came back down 0.2 to 1.4.  DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, airing for the first time since December, was up 0.1 to 1.3.

FOX:  LETHAL WEAPON fell 0.2 from 2 weeks ago to 1.2.  STAR held last week’s 1.1, which had followed a LETHAL WEAPON rerun.

NBC:  A night of 0.7-0.9 reruns.

CW:  Reruns at 0.3/0.2.

THE CATCH returns to ABC tonight.  On cable, CMT has the midseason finale of NASHVILLE, and IFC airs the season finale of PORTLANDIA.

COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
