A rough night for most.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: EMPIRE returned from a week off and fell 0.2 to a new series low 2.1. SHOTS FIRED was steady at 0.8.
ABC: The sitcoms aired new episodes for the first time since April 5. THE GOLDBERGS fell 0.2 to 1.4, and SPEECHLESS was also down 0.2 to 1.2. ABC aired back-to-back BLACK-ISH episodes in the 9PM hour at 1.2/1.2, down 0.1 from the last new episode. DESIGNATED SURVIVOR gained 0.1 to 1.1.
CW: The line-up returned steady from a month-long hiatus, with ARROW at 0.5 and THE 100 at 0.3.
NBC: The line-up last aired new episodes on April 5. BLINDSPOT was steady at 0.9, while SVU (1.1) and CHICAGO PD (1.2) were each down 0.1.
CBS: SURVIVOR held at 1.7, CRIMINAL MINDS was down 0.1 from its last new episode on April 5 to 1.2, and CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS remained at 0.8.
Tonight marks the start of May sweeps, notable these days mostly as a sign that the broadcast networks are moving into the home stretch of their regular seasons. It also means new episodes will be the order of the day, although NBC’s yanking of POWERLESS from the schedule means its line-up will include new and rerun episodes of SUPERSTORE tonight.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
