The second night of the Republican National Convention declined to 19.4 million persons 2+ across the three broadcast networks and three cable networks in the 10-11 pm ET hour (from 22.5 million Monday) and now slightly below the comparable night in 2012 and 2008. Viewing in the 25-54 sales demographic really suffered, falling to 5.7 million on Tuesday at 10 pm, down from 7.1 million on Monday and below Tuesday night in 2008 and 2012.
The race among total viewers (persons 2+) tightened a bit between Fox News Channel and NBC, with CNN holding in 3rd place. With 25-54 year-olds, NBC held a decent first place position, with Fox News and CNN trailing. The other networks look really weak, especially in the 25-54 target demo.
Here is the average of the first two nights. With Monday above recent years and Tuesday slightly below, 2012 as a whole is now tracking almost identically to recent years.
