NETWORK FINALS:  As expected, NBC’s preliminary ratings were quite different after adjustment for the NASCAR overrun.  That scored 1.1, and then SUNDAY NIGHT WITH MEGYN KELLY was at 0.5 (still up 0.1 from last week, probably because of the 9PM airtime), as was the SPARTAN finale.

CABLE HIGHLIGHTS:  Despite significant competition from Discovery, HBO’s GAME OF THRONES was the night’s monarch, down a mild 0.38 from last week’s record-breaking premiere, and up 0.66 from the 2d 2016 episode–and still up from the 2016 season premiere.  BALLERS and INSECURE couldn’t have asked for more from a lead-in, and BALLERS had a 1.22 premiere, up 0.43 from last year’s premiere (and up 0.12 from the series premiere in 2015), while INSECURE was at 0.55, up a mammoth 0.44 from last year’s series premiere, and up 0.29 from the season finale.  Starz’s POWER continues to hold extremely well against THRONES, up 0.08 to 0.82.  TNT’s CLAWS slipped 0.02 to 0.45.  FX’s THE STRAIN took a big 0.22 hit from last week’s season premiere to 0.30.  Things stayed sad at Showtime, where TWIN PEAKS dropped 0.02 to 0.09, and I’M DYING UP HERE ticked off the chart to 0.04/126K.  In late-night, Adult Swim’s DECKER: MINDWIPE ticked up to 0.34, and APOLLO GAUNTLET was down 0.04 to 0.24.

SHARK WEEK began on Discovery, led by 1.88 for PHELPS VS SHARK, and with 1.29 for the SHARK-CROCODILE SHOWDOWN, 0.95 for GREAT WHITE SERIAL KILLER LIVES, 0.91 for GREAT HAMMERHEAD INVASION, and 0.59 for SHARK AFTER DARK.  Those 7-10PM numbers are far better than 2016, when the week kicked off at 0.90/0.90/0.84/0.55.  On TLC, 90 DAY FIANCE rose 0.07 to 0.48, and SPOUSE HOUSE was steady at 0.22. ESPN’s MLB game was at 0.45.  On Food Network, FOOD NETWORK STAR fell 0.08 to 0.40, and GUY’S GROCERY GAMES was down 0.02 to 0.26.  HGTV’s extensive Sunday programming was led by ISLAND HUNTERS at 0.39/0.37, compared to last week’s 0.44/0.38. Univision’s GOLD CUP match was at 0.39, and Fox Sports 1’s English-language coverage was at 0.31.  Bravo’s SHAHS OF SUNSET dropped 0.07 to 0.38.  On ID, ON THE CASE gained 0.03 to 0.35, and AMERICAN MONSTER was down 0.06 to 0.29.  E!’s BOTCHED ticked down to 0.28, and FAMOUSLY SINGLE was down 0.02 to 0.13.  Spike’s BAR RESCUE dropped 0.08 to 0.24.
