It’s encouraging when the ratings for a new series rise off a much-hyped premiere, and RAY DONOVAN managed that last night (in total viewers, at least–we don’t yet have any demo information), up from 1.4M to 1.6M, plus another 600K from re-airings later that night. A couple of things should be noted, though. First, the Ray Donovan pilot was available in advance both online and on VOD, while episode 2 wasn’t, which almost certainly means that some of last night’s extra eyeballs weren’t new viewers but rather those who simply changed platforms. Also, the real challenge for the show will come next Sunday, when it faces off against the Season 2 premiere of HBO’s The Newsroom.
DEXTER was also up a bit from its season premiere, although still within a rounding of 2.5M at 9PM (plus an additional 500K in later airings).
