Even at HBO, someone has to watch your show.  The network announced today that ENLIGHTENED won’t be returning for a third season.  The Mike White/Laura Dern dramedy earned its share of praise, but its Season 2 finale was watched by 200,000 people–and that’s not 18-49s, that’s the total number of people in America who tuned in.  (Even that was a substantial increase from the week before, when only 130,000 viewers showed up.)  The numbers of course went up when all runs and platforms were calculated in, but after two full seasons, it was clear that Enlightened wasn’t going to grow beyond its cult.  It seemed that even White and Dern realized that, since the season ended on a note that easily translated to a series finale–although the cries are probably already starting for Netflix or Amazon or someone else to take it on.  Namaste to them, and to Enlightened in general.
