Happy New Year to our readers.  And it was a very happy send-off to 2017 for ABC.

DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).

ABC:  Whether it was the holiday night falling on a Sunday, the return of Mariah Carey or something else, DICK CLARK’S NEW YEAR’S ROCKIN EVE had a sensational night.  The 8-10PM portion shot up 1.2 from 2016 to 3.5, and the 10PM hour zoomed 1.4 to 5.0.  The evening started with a 0.9 AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS rerun.

FOX:  The network returned to primetime festivities with NEW YEAR’S EVE WITH STEVE HARVEY at 1.8.

CBS:  60 MINUTES, boosted by its NFL lead-in, gained 0.6 to 1.3.  Reruns followed at 0.7/0.6.

NBC:  Deprived of its NFL game, the network aired 2 hours of DATELINE at 0.6, then reruns of THE WALL at 0.5/0.6.

All the networks except CBS jump back into new programming tonight, highlighted by premieres of THE BACHELOR on ABC and BETTER LATE THAN NEVER on NBC.

COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.

CABLE RATINGS: Saturday & Sunday cable ratings will be posted Wednesday morning, later than normal due to the New Year’s Day holiday.
