The NBA FINALS made a meal of HANNIBAL.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
ABC: With a marquee match-up and a Game 1 that wasn’t resolved until overtime, the NBA FINALS could hardly be going better for ABC, scoring a 5.6 preliminary rating that was up half a point from last year’s preliminary Game 1. There was a 2.7 for the night’s opening JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, but that number will likely decline with final ratings.
NBC: There will be speculation about whether the 0.4 plunge (to 0.7) for the 2d week of AQUARIUS was more due to the basketball competition, the show’s availability online for binge-watching, or just the fact that viewers didn’t like it very much. In any case, it’s certainly not a healthy number. And that lead-in certainly didn’t help the season premiere of HANNIBAL, which was also at 0.7, equaling its series low. The night started with 1.1 for DATELINE, down 0.1 from last week.
FOX: BONES and WAYWARD PINES were each down 0.1 to the same 1.1 rating.
CBS: Reruns, led by 1.4 for THE BIG BANG THEORY.
CW: Reruns at 0.3/0.2.
The closest thing to an event on tonight’s primetime festival of reruns is NBC’s airing of the original JURASSIC PARK, which just so happens to precede the opening of NBCUniversal’s new JURASSIC WORLD by 6 days.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
