There’s no stopping EMPIRE.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: NBC tried airing an episode of THE VOICE (albeit a clip show) against the FOX juggernaut last night, and it seemed to dent AMERICAN IDOL, which was down 0.6 from last week (and from the parallel night last year) to 2.1. EMPIRE, though, shrugged the competition off, rising once again, this time by 0.3, to a spectacular 5.7. And the blockbuster has consistently gained another tenth in adjusted afternoon numbers, so it could go still higher.
CBS: CSI: CYBER debuted at 1.8, a fair number that easily won its timeslot, but down 0.1 from its CRIMINAL MINDS lead-in (which was steady), and down 0.2 from STALKER’s premiere in that hour last fall. The night started with 2.3 for SURVIVOR, down 0.1 from last week’s cycle premiere.
ABC: THE MIDDLE had the biggest gain of the night, up 0.2 to 2.2. Both THE GOLDBERGS and MODERN FAMILY were steady, respectively at 2.3 and 3.4. BLACK-ISH managed a 0.1 rise (to 2.3), despite the monster competition on FOX, and NASHVILLE was also up 0.1 (to 1.4).
NBC: That VOICE clip show was at 2.1, and then a rerun CHICAGO PD managed 1.1.
CW: THE 100 wasn’t hurt by having an ARROW rerun as its lead-in (at 0.4, down from 1.1 for last week’s original episode), and remained at 0.5.
ABC is launching the excellent AMERICAN CRIME tonight, perhaps the most “cable” hour any broadcast network has yet attempted. It will have a strong lead-in from SCANDAL to help get it started. All the other networks have fresh line-ups except CW. On cable, USA premieres its limited series DIG.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
