Happy New Year, NBC.
NBC: The night set up beautifully for the Peacock, with marquee teams NY Giants and Cowboys doing battle for the final NFL playoff spot and repeats everywhere else–and SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL came through in spades, with a preliminary estimated 8.7 that could go up in final actuals to be one of the highest rated SNF games ever. The bad news: the NFL season is over, which means NBC’s Sunday will shortly go back to being a pumpkin. The good news: they still have one football detail remaining, a little something America likes to call the Super Bowl.
CBS: Repeats, boosted by a big 7PM football overrun, put the network in 2d place for the night.
FOX: Animation reruns were all in the 1.3-1.7 range.
ABC: The network threw 4 consecutive hours of ONCE UPON A TIME repeats at the wall, and none of them did better than a 1.2.
Tonight: new programming! (Everywhere except FOX and CW, anyway.) All-new episodes on CBS, the season premiere of The Bachelor on ABC, and fresh hours of reality crap (followed by Rock Center) on NBC. The network’s winter holiday is nearly over.
