WORLDWIDE STUDIO SCORECARD.  Fox expanded its lead with $147 million worldwide this week, mostly from the release of The Maze Runner, pushing the studio to over $3.8 billion worldwide for the year to date.  Disney is in second with $2.6 billion, and Warner Brothers remains in third place with almost $2.5 billion.  In the chart below you will see Warner Brothers at -$24 million for the week, which is a function of an overstatement of overseas grosses for Dolphin Tale 2 last week (about $50 million overstated).  That $50 million has been backup out of the numbers — otherwise, Warner Brothers would be up about $25 million this week.

YEAR TO DATE BOX OFFICE. Looking at North American box office, 2014 is still running -7% behind last year and -5% below the average for this point the past four years ($7.256 billion).  Over the same period, Hollywood films have grossed almost $18.2 billion worldwide when we add overseas box office.

A reminder: we define the start of each year as the first Monday after New Year’s Day, and our year ends on the Sunday after New Year’s Day the following calendar year.  (The most recent week’s numbers are based on weekend estimates, which are usually at worst a couple of percentage points off from the final weekend tallies.)

The past six weeks in North America are now -7% behind the same period last year (a bit worse than the -6% last week and the -2% pace two weeks ago) and now -9% below the four-year average for the similar six-week period ($0.902 billion).

WORLDWIDE GROSSES BY FILM TITLE.  The Maze Runner enters the 2014 worldwide chart at #33 (with significant overseas upside to move it up the rankings),  A Walk Among the Tombstones enters at #68 (with moderate prospects for more overseas business), and This Is Where I Leave You starts at #73 (with very little overseas prospects).
