Has any mega-hit collapsed as quickly as EMPIRE?
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: EMPIRE fell 0.3 to another new low at 1.8. That’s down 50% from the parallel night last year, and it’s down two-thirds from where the show was in 2015. SHOTS FIRED was steady at 0.8.
ABC: Another high-profile new low, as MODERN FAMILY aired its first new episode in a month and dropped 0.3 to 1.6. The rest of the night was more stable, as THE GOLDBERGS (1.4) and SPEECHLESS (1.2) held last week’s numbers, and BLACK-ISH (1.2) was steady with last week’s 9PM episode (0.1 below the 9:30PM installment). DESIGNATED SURVIVOR lost 0.2 to 0.9, putting it just one-tenth above the level of last season’s canceled NASHVILLE in that slot.
NBC: BLINDSPOT stayed at 0.9, but SVU (1.0) and CHICAGO PD (1.1) were down 0.1 from last week.
CBS: After SURVIVOR’s steady 1.8, CRIMINAL MINDS and its spin-off BEYOND BORDERS reversed the night’s trend by rising 0.1, respectively to 1.4 and 0.9.
CW: As of now, ARROW is again at 0.5 and THE 100 is up 0.1 to 0.4, but with the network preempted in Los Angeles, those numbers may change with finals this afternoon.
SUPERSTORE airs its season finale tonight on NBC.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
