A slow pre-holiday night may well have made AQUARIUS the lowest-rated series ever renewed by a major broadcast network.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
NBC: FOOD FIGHTERS may not have picked the best night for its season premiere. It arrived at 0.7, 0.3 below the July 2014 premiere (which aired on a Tuesday). After that, things only got worse, as AQUARIUS fell 0.2 to a new series low 0.4, a rating that would be barely be safe for a CW renewal, and one that tied it with the canceled HANNIBAL, which was steady with last week’s series low.
CBS: After an hour of 1.3 (for BIG BANG THEORY) and 1.0 reruns, BIG BROTHER dropped 0.3 from last week’s Thursday premiere to 1.8, and UNDER THE DOME hit a new low, down 0.3 to 1.0.
ABC: ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB and MISTRESSES each slipped 0.1 from last week to new series lows, respectively at 0.7/0.6. ROOKIE BLUE remained at last week’s series low 0.6.
FOX: BOOM! and WAYWARD PINES each fell 0.2, respectively to 0.7 and 1.0. For PINES, it was the lowest rating since the series premiere (which aired against regular season finales on the other networks).
CW: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST stayed at its series low 0.2, better at least than the 0.1 for a VAMPIRE DIARIES rerun that followed.
Viewership tonight is likely to be even worse, and the networks are running for cover, with ABC’s WHAT WOULD YOU DO as the only original hour scheduled.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
