To the extent one can be disappointed by the boxoffice of a movie that’s cruised to $211.8M in 6 days, Wednesday was an off day for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Batman declined a fairly tough 23% yesterday for a $13.8M day. That was about mid-range in terms of the results for the day’s Top 10, but it’s a considerably heavier fall than The Dark Knight had on its 6th day of release in 2008, when it fell only 12% to $18.4M. That increased the gap between the 2 pictures to a more than $10M lead for Dark Knight, and makes it less likely that Rises will ever catch up. However, it should be noted that the Top 10 as a whole were considerably lower yesterday than on the parallel day in 2008, when Dark Knight‘s 12% drop was the worst on the list, and several titles actually increased for the day. This may (or may not) indicate lingering aftereffects of the awful events in Colorado last week.
Dark Knight Rises has the #5 6-day gross in history, behind The Avengers, Dark Knight, Transformers 2 and the last Harry Potter.
