Based on Friday’s grosses, Weekend #8 of 2013 is another bad one: $86 million for the top 12 films Friday-Sunday (down 25% from the same weekend last year and down 15% from the average for the weekend the last few years).  Identity Thief will hold on to the #1 spot for the weekend (but only at $13.4 million).

Opening at 2,511 theaters Friday, Snitch from Summit and starring the unlikely combination of  The Rock and Susan Sarandon grossed $4.1 Friday and is on track for a $12 million opening weekend (down a touch from the $13.7 million ShowbuzzDaily forecast earlier this week).   The film is averaging $4,800 per theater for the weekend (slightly below the $5,333 opening weekend average for all wide-release films the last two years).  Critics are mixed: 53% positive reviews at RottenTomatoes.  Snitch should finish with $40 million total domestic.

Opening at 2,313 theaters, Dark Skies from Weinstein/Dimension grossed $3.1 million Friday and is on track for an $8.5 million opening weekend (below the already soft $10.8 million ShowbuzzDaily forecast).   The film is averaging a bad $3,700 per theater for the weekend, and critical sentiment is a weak 38% positive.  Dark Skies is headed for maybe $15 million total domestic.
