Continuing to wield a mighty hammer at the boxoffice, THE AVENGERS on Monday had the highest non-holiday, non-summer Monday of all time with $18.9M. That handily beat the previous record holder Avatar, which had $16.4M on December 21, 2009. Avengers has already grossed $700M worldwide, with much more to come.
In other boxoffice news, THE HUNGER GAMES reached $381.04M, passing the $381.01M earned by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 to become the 13th highest grossing film in US history (and the 7th highest non-sequel). That’s probably as high up the list as it’s going to get–#12 is Transformers 2, a steep $21M ahead–but still a remarkable achievement.
