Deadline has some early Friday boxoffice numbers, and the news was good for
CONTAGION and its maybe-I’m-retiring-and-maybe-I’m-not director Steven Soderbergh: an $8M opening day that should lead to a weekend around $22M, which would overperform Mitch Metcalf’s
predictions by a bit. On the other hand, despite strong reviews,
WARRIOR hasn’t yet been able to get over the hurdle of its macho-man marketing campaign. It did only $2M on Friday and may not get much higher than $6M for the weekend. No one is talking about the
BUCKY LARSON numbers.
Among holdovers, THE HELP continued to be a champ, heading for around a 30-35% drop in its 5th weekend. THE DEBT, though, took a bigger hit of around 50% from the 3-day portion of last weekend.
Stay with SHOWBUZZDAILY all weekend for updated numbers and Mitch Metcalf’s analysis on Saturday morning.
