NBC’s trailers for its fall series continue. Next up: the sitcom WELCOME TO THE FAMILY, featuring Mike O’Malley and Mary McCormick as a couple whose teen daughter falls in love with (and gets pregnant by) the valedictorian son of a Latino family, forcing them to all get to know each other.
NBC’s journey down the middle stays unswerving with Family. The show has one big thing going for it: O’Malley, a born TV star who’s been an exceptional presence in both the wildly disparate universes of Glee and Justified. That, however, may be the only thing going for it. The rest looks like every other comedy about mismatched families who have to make the best of each other, this time with a Latino spin (not emphasized in the trailer). Worst of all is the reveal at the very end, which implies that the show is going to combine its original sitcom cliche with an even bigger one.
