The 10PM hour was taken up by news shows concerning some of the saddest of recent events.
FOX: Lacking a news division of its own (let’s pretend its affiliated cable network doesn’t exist), FOX aired its regular line-up. FRINGE was up 0.2 at 1.1, tying the rerun KITCHEN NIGHTMARES at 8PM.
ABC: The LAST MAN STANDING/MALIBU COUNTRY hour seems to have found its level, with Last steady at 1.5 and Malibu up slightly to the same number. After a SHARK TANK rerun at 1.2, 20/20 rose to 1.6.
NBC: A rerun of the Michael Buble Christmas special started the night with 0.9, then TAKE IT ALL had a 1.1 (down a tick from Thursday). DATELINE won the battle of Newtown coverage with 2.0.
CBS: The roughly 10 millionth run of RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER was the network’s highest rated show of the night at 1.9, followed by 1.6 for YES, VIRGINIA. A special hour of news had a 1.2 at 10PM.
CW: The holiday movie Prancer Returns reached 0.4.
Tonight is all reruns on NBC and FOX, with theatrical movies Transformers and Elf on ABC and CBS, respectively, but NBC has the final new SNL of 2012 in late-night, on what’s sure to be an awkward night for comedy, featuring masters Martin Short as host and Paul McCartney providing the music. Tomorrow, CBS has the cycle finale of SURVIVOR, but the main events will be the season finales of DEXTER and HOMELAND on Showtime.
