NBC’s latest musical event didn’t get a worshipful reception.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
NBC: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR had a preliminary 1.7 rating, considerably below the 2.3 for HAIRSPRAY, and just slightly higher than the 1.6 that FOX had with its widely panned THE PASSION on Easter 2016. It did, however, perform well with older audiences, which made it the night’s highest-rated show in total viewers. It was followed by a truncated DATELINE at 0.7, and the night started with a rerun of LITTLE BIG SHOTS at 0.6.
ABC: Reruns of the ROSEANNE episodes from last week were very far from the first run’s phenomenal ratings at 0.8. AMERICAN IDOL slipped 0.1 to 1.6, and DECEPTION gained 0.1 to 0.8.
CBS: 60 MINUTES missed Stormy Daniels, down from last week’s giant 4.0 to a meager 0.7. INSTINCT plunged 0.7 to 0.6. NCIS: LA was down 0.3 to 0.8, and MADAM SECRETARY lost 0.2 to 0.5.
FOX: BOB’S BURGERS dropped 0.3 to 0.6, THE SIMPSONS held at 0.9, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE slid 0.1 to 0.8, FAMILY GUY was steady at 0.9, and THE LAST MAN ON EARTH fell 0.1 to 0.6. The evening started with a 0.4 rerun of an ICE AGE special.
CBS and FOX are in rerun mode tonight, probably to avoid the NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME on TBS/TNT/Tru. ABC, however, launches its new thriller THE CROSSING against the game.
COMPARISONS TO SIMILAR NIGHTS: Preliminary adult 18-49 ratings versus the same night last year and same night last week.
