Melissa McCarthy’s star vehicle TAMMY (Warners) may not be winning any critical plaudits (it’s at 19% positive on Rotten Tomatoes), but that’s not keeping her fans away, at least in the short term. Tammy opened with $1.3M at Tuesday night shows, and while that’s far from the $5.5M that 22 Jump Street had last month or the $2.6M that Neighbors had in May on the Thursday nights before their official releases, it’s more than double the $550K for The Other Woman earlier this year, and higher than the $1M for last year’s smash The Heat, which featured Sandra Bullock as well. It’s also almost triple the $450K night-before results for McCarthy’s Identity Thief.
Tammy cost only $20M to produce (although it carries the usual massive Warners marketing pricetag, boosting total costs quite a bit), and should be well on its way to profit by the end of the July 4th weekend.
There are no reports as of yet for Tuesday night box office on DELIVER US FROM EVIL (Screen Gems/Sony) or EARTH TO ECHO (Relativity).

Weekend Box Office Predictions
The weekend predictions will return next week, when Exodus: God and Kings and Top Five are released nationally. This weekend, typical for the post-Thanksgiving weekend, is extremely quiet. Only The Pyramid is opening at a very small 589 theaters.
