WEEKEND STUDIO ESTIMATES April 6-8

>The weekend studio estimates (based on Friday and Saturday actuals and projections for Sunday) are coming in about the same as the weekend numbers posted yesterday (based on Friday actuals only).  The box office volume for the top 12 films is now looking like $117 million for the weekend, up 14% from last year’s weekend and up 9% from the weekend’s average for the past four years. 

The Hunger Games looks like a 43% decline in its third weekend to $33.5 million, now grossing an estimated $303 million through today (its first 17 days).  The 43% decline this weekend is a substantial improvement over the almost 62% decline in the second weekend.

The ShowbuzzDaily Domestic Final estimates now show that the films opening wide this weekend are headed for:  American Reunion ($74 million) and Titanic 3D ($62 million). 

Second week films: Wrath of the Titans ($89 million, adjusted up slightly) and Mirror Mirror ($62 million, adjusted up). 

Third week:  The Hunger Games ($380 million, adjusted up slightly).

Fourth week: 21 Jump Street ($137 million, adjusted up slightly from the third week in a row).

The Top 12 Films this weekend are looking like a decent $117 million total Friday-Sunday, up 14% from the same calendar weekend last year and up 9% from the more typical volume for this weekend in other years.

Next Weekend            
 
Opening wide next weekend are The Three Stooges from 20th Century Fox, Cabin in the Woods from Lionsgate and Lockout from FilmDistrict.  These films will be compared to these films from the same weekend last year:  Rio ($39.2 million opening weekend), Scream 4 ($18.7 million) and The Conspirator ($3.5 million).
