Based on Friday’s grosses, weekend #14 of 2015 looks like $225 million for the top 12 films Friday-Sunday, way above the norms for this weekend and setting a new record for early April.

Opening at 4,004 theaters Friday, Furious 7 from Universal is on track for a $149.5 million opening three-day weekend (well above our $117.5 million ShowBuzzDaily forecast earlier this week). The film is pacing toward a huge $37,300 per theater for the weekend (compared to the $5,333 opening weekend average for all wide-release films the last two years). Critical sentiment at RottenTomatoes is very good (81% positive overall and 82% positive with top critics).  Furious 7 is headed for $350 million total domestic.

Opening at 258 theaters Friday, Woman in Gold from Weinstein Company is on track for a $1.5 million opening three-day weekend (a touch above our $1.2 million forecast). The film is pacing toward a decent $5,800 per theater for the weekend. Critical sentiment is mediocre to weak, however (48% positive overall and 30% positive with top critics).
