STALKER: Wednesday 10PM on CBS
THE FACTS: From the grisly mind of The Following‘s Kevin Williamson, a procedural about an LAPD squad that specializes in tracking down dangerous stalkers. Maggie Q runs the unit, and Dylan McDermott is the cocky new arrival from New York who immediately gets on her wrong side; both of them have secrets.
WHAT IT’S SAYING: Dark and violent, with baddies who do terrible things to the people they’re stalking. Sparked by the tough-cop chemistry of Maggie Q and McDermott.
WHAT IT’S REALLY SAYING: This may be a CBS procedural, but it’s not afraid to get its hands dirty. The characters have cable-type baggage, and sometimes they’ll take action outside the law.
THE OUTLOOK: The pairing with Criminal Minds makes sense, and Maggie Q and McDermott are a star-power pair. It brings new blood (literally) to a night that’s seriously old. Chicago PD has been no more than OK for NBC, and could be ripe for the picking (Nashville on ABC is lucky to be alive). CBS is badly in need of a new generation of its trademark dramas–preferably some of them with titles that don’t contain “NCIS” or “CSI”–and this could be a useful piece.
