GLEE’s final return wasn’t tuneful.
DEMOGRAPHIC DETAIL: For each broadcast program (or hour segment), the chart below displays preliminary key advertiser demographics (adult 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 ratings), audience skews (women 18-49, men 18-49 and adults 50+ shares) and total viewership (thousands of people over the age of 2).
Ratings analysis and comparisons follow the chart.
FOX: Any hope that “final season” nostalgia would boost GLEE was for naught. Its 0.7 2-hour premiere was down almost 2/3 from last fall’s 2.0 debut (which was on a Thursday), although the glass half-full view would be that it was at least up 0.1 from the 2014 finale.
ABC: LAST MAN STANDING (aided by a HOME IMPROVEMENT reunion stunt) and CRISTELA returned from holiday hiatus up a notch, with LAST MAN at 1.6 and CRISTELA at 1.3. SHARK TANK was stable with its norm at 1.9, and 20/20 was at 1.4.
CBS: UNDERCOVER BOSS and HAWAII 5-0 were each up 0.1 from last week to 1.5, and BLUE BLOODS was steady at 1.4.
NBC: The network will hope that its COUNTDOWN TO THE GOLDEN GLOBES special wasn’t a forecast of Sunday’s ratings, with a sad 0.5. It was preceded by a 0.5 GRIMM rerun and 1.1 for DATELINE.
CW: An attempt to prepare the timeslot for the return of HART OF DIXIE with a rerun of last month’s “season premiere” didn’t do much at 0.2. The same low number recurred for a WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY rerun and a new half-hour of MASTERS OF ILLUSION.
Tonight will belong to FOX’s NFL PLAYOFF game, with reruns on the other networks. Sunday is extraordinarily busy: not only the GOLDEN GLOBES on NBC and fresh episodes on the other networks, but both HBO and Showtime launch their early 2015 line-ups, featuring the new TOGETHERNESS and the returns of GIRLS and LOOKING on HBO, and the season premieres of SHAMELESS, HOUSE OF LIES and EPISODES on Showtime.
