No major surprises in the Saturday boxoffice numbers, according to preliminary figures at Deadline. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (Sony) is reporting a solid 18% Friday-to-Saturday bump, better than the 13% that Transformers had in its first Saturday. That should get it to $140M by Sunday, the #26 6-day opening of all time.
SAVAGES (Universal) is claiming a small 5% Saturday increase that might bring the weekend to a still-underwhelming $16M. Better, though, than KATY PERRY – PART OF ME (Paramount), which fell on Saturday and won’t be much higher than $10M for its 4-day opening.
TED (Universal) had a very healthy 30% Saturday bump, and may only be down 35% in its 2d weekend. The R-rated talking bear has nothing to fear from Ice Age 4 next weekend, unlike BRAVE (Pixar/Disney) and MADAGASCAR 3 (DreamWorks Animation/Paramount), also holding well before the prehistoric cartoon characters arrive. MAGIC MIKE (Warners), though, fell by 10% on Saturday and is looking at a 60% 2d weekend plunge, around the same as MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION (Lionsgate).
MOONRISE KINGDOM (Focus/Universal) is reportedly holding almost exactly even with last weekend, despite only a few extra theatres–an exceptional result, and suggesting the possibility of broader success. TO ROME WITH LOVE (Sony Classics) had a strong 60% Saturday bump, but is still performing at about 2/3 of the Midnight In Paris per-theatre average at around 15% fewer theatres.
