THE SKED 2013 UPFRONTS: ABC Trailer – “Super Fun Night”

ABC is all-in with Rebel Wilson next fall.  The network has given SUPER FUN NIGHT, which she wrote as well as stars in, its showcase Wednesday 9:30PM slot, behind Modern Family.  Wilson plays one of a trio of pals who’ve never been successful with guys and spend their Friday nights together hanging out at home–until they decide to go out clubbing.  The trailer is below.

The math on Super Fun Night is simple:  if viewers love Wilson, they’ll love the show.  The show isn’t exactly aiming for subtlety, on the evidence of the pilot:  the episode’s punch-line is the sight of Wilson in her underwear.  This doesn’t exactly match Modern Family‘s more dexterous brand of humor, but Wilson has shown in Pitch Perfect, among other places, that she can be laugh-out-loud funny and likable.  One would hope for some more moderation of tone in Fun Night than the trailer suggests, but in the end, its success will be a referendum on the appeal of its star.
